Which worksheet should you start with?

Choose one thing your child is already beginning to try. A child who enjoys drawing paths might like tracing lines. If they are noticing letters in their name, start with one of those letters. For counting practice, look for a page with a small group of objects they can point to as they count.

The age range on a worksheet is a starting point. Look at the preview and the task itself: some children need larger shapes and fewer marks on a page, while others are ready to write without tracing.

• Letters: try one familiar letter before working through the alphabet.
• Numbers: count the pictures aloud, then try writing the numeral.
• Writing: practise lines and curves before moving to smaller letter shapes.
• Colouring and puzzles: choose a picture or challenge your child wants to spend time on.

2. Download the file. Follow the download or purchase steps shown on that worksheet.
3. Check the print preview. Select the paper size listed with the file. If an edge is cut off, try the Fit to page setting in your PDF reader.

Try the first example together, then let your child have a go. You can leave part of a page unfinished and come back to it. At school, choose a sheet that matches the skill you have just introduced; at home, use a familiar topic to get started.

Do I need a colour printer?

Check the preview first. Many tracing and writing activities have black-and-white outlines. An activity that asks children to identify colours may need colour printing.

What if the PDF does not print correctly?
